Espionage, by its very nature, is designed to be secret and deniable. Those involved take extreme measures to avoid detection. Consequently, "smoking gun" or direct evidence—such as a videotape of an agent handing classified documents to a foreign intelligence officer or a signed confession upon arrest—is often rare, especially in the early stages of an investigation. This is where circumstantial evidence becomes critically important.

The analysis of international relations and national security often involves examining complex networks of interactions between political figures, business leaders, and individuals with connections to foreign states. When timelines are presented suggesting patterns of engagement that raise questions about potential foreign influence or even espionage—such as the time line below suggest in contexts involving obvious Russian interests—it becomes crucial to understand the methodologies of intelligence operations and the nature of evidence typically encountered in such sensitive investigations.

What is Circumstantial Evidence? Circumstantial evidence is indirect evidence that does not, on its face, prove a fact in issue but allows for an inference to be drawn that logically leads to that fact. It requires a trier of fact (like a jury or an investigator) to make a reasonable deduction or connection. For example, seeing someone run from a room where a shot was just fired is circumstantial evidence they might be involved; direct evidence would be seeing them fire the gun. Courts generally give equal weight to direct and circumstantial evidence, provided the inferences drawn from circumstantial evidence are reasonable and lead to a logical conclusion.

Investigators often build a "mosaic" of circumstantial evidence. Each piece on its own might be explainable, but when put together, they can paint a compelling picture of espionage activity, sufficient to focus an investigation, obtain warrants for more intrusive surveillance (which might then yield direct evidence), and ultimately, secure a conviction.

However, once the damage has been done and an operation complete it can be nearly impossible to surveil or catch as the act has already been committed as is the case with the PsyOps attack conducted against the American People. 1991: Felix Sater is convicted for assault after a bar fight, marking the beginning of his criminal record. Sater’s father has direct connections with the Russian Mob.

1998: Felix Sater pleaded guilty to participating in a $40 million stock fraud scheme linked to the Russian Mafia. To mitigate his sentence, he became an informant for the FBI and other U.S. intelligence agencies, providing information on organized crime, terrorism, and weapons proliferation. His cooperation reportedly included intelligence on al-Qaeda and North Korea.

Trump World Tower & Russian Buyers (1999–2001)

1999–2001: Construction of Trump World Tower in New York City. During this period, numerous units were sold to buyers from the former Soviet Union, including individuals with alleged ties to Russian organized crime.

Trump World Tower in New York attracted numerous buyers from the former Soviet Union. Approximately 65 units were sold to Russian nationals in the late 1990s, with some purchasers linked to organized crime. Notably, Semyon “Sam” Kislin, associated with Russian mobster Vyacheslav Ivankov, issued mortgages to investors from the former Soviet Union for units in the building .

2002 Winter Olympics Scandal

AlimzhanTokhtakhounov gained international notoriety during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He was accused of orchestrating a scheme to fix the pairs figure skating competition by bribing judges to favor Russian skaters over their Canadian counterparts. Arrested in Italy at the request of U.S. authorities, he was later released after an Italian court denied the extradition request

Felix Sater, Bayrock Group & Trump SoHo (2003–2010)

2003: Felix Sater, a convicted felon with connections to organized crime, joins Bayrock Group as a senior advisor. Bayrock operates out of Trump Tower and collaborates with the Trump Organization on several projects.

2006–2010: Bayrock and the Trump Organization develop Trump SoHo in New York City. The project later faces legal scrutiny over alleged money laundering and undisclosed criminal backgrounds of key figures.

Felix Sater, a Russian-born real estate developer with a criminal past involving a Mafia-linked stock fraud scheme, played a significant role in Trump’s business ventures. As managing director of Bayrock Group, Sater collaborated with Trump on projects like Trump SoHo in New York. Bayrock has been accused in lawsuits of being “covertly mob-owned and operated,” engaging in money laundering and other fraudulent activities .

Alimzhan Tokhtakhounov and Trump Tower (2011 - 2013)
The FBI investigates a Russian organized crime money-laundering ring operating out of unit 63A in Trump Tower, New York. The operation is linked to Alimzhan Tokhtakhounov, a known Russian mobster. This operation, known as the Taiwanchik-Trincher Organization, was allegedly overseen by Tokhtakhounov and catered to oligarchs and wealthy clients worldwide. The illegal gambling ring laundered over $50 million through shell companies in Cyprus and the U.S.

April 2013: The FBI raids the gambling ring, leading to the indictment of over 30 individuals. Tokhtakhounov is charged but remains at large.

November 2013: Tokhtakhounov is spotted at the Miss Universe pageant in Moscow, an event co-hosted by Trump, despite being a fugitive wanted by U.S. authorities.the

July 8, 2014 Joe Rogan - Episode #519 In his first appearance, Gad Saad introduced his application of evolutionary psychology to consumer behavior, discussing how innate biological drives influence purchasing decisions. September 2015: Michael Cohen received an initial proposal for a "Trump Tower Moscow."

October 28, 2015: Donald Trump signed a non-binding letter of intent with a Moscow-based development company, I.C. Expert Investment Co., to move forward with the project. Felix Sater and Michael Cohen were instrumental in facilitating this.

November 2015: Felix Sater emailed Michael Cohen with optimistic messages about the project, including the assertion that it could help Trump's presidential prospects and that he could get Russian President Vladimir Putin's support. Sater emails Cohen, stating, “Our boy can become president of the USA and we can engineer it.”

The linguistic pattern of the “our boy” and the history of Trump's Business dealings and public relationship and being best friends with Jeffrey Epstein suggest Russia had dirt on Trump from his relationship and partying with Epstein. Most likely connected to the 14 year old Trump was introduced to by Epstein's Partner Ghislaine Maxwell in the late 1990s making Trump Russia’s “boy” as Sater refers to him by.

January 2016: Michael Cohen emailed Dmitry Peskov, Putin's press secretary, seeking assistance with the project. Cohen later had a phone call with one of Peskov's assistants. Initially, Cohen had told Congress that discussions ended this month.
February 26, 2016 Joe Rogan - Episode #766 The conversation focused on the rise of social justice movements and their effects on free speech. Saad critiqued the suppression of dissenting opinions and highlighted the dangers of ideological conformity. (Conditioning)

May 2016: Cohen and Sater discussed potential trips to Moscow for both Cohen and possibly Trump to advance the deal. Sater informed Cohen that Peskov might want to meet him in mid-June in St. Petersburg.

June 2016: Negotiations and communications regarding the Trump Tower Moscow project were still ongoing. Michael Cohen later admitted in a guilty plea that his earlier statements to Congress (claiming talks ended in January 2016) were false.

June 14, 2016: Cohen reportedly met with Sater and informed him that his potential trip to St. Petersburg (and by extension, Russia for the project at that time) was off. This is also the date the first public reports emerged about suspected Russian government hacking of the Democratic National Committee's computer network. Sater has stated that news of the DNC hacking made pursuing a Russian business connection a political liability, leading to the proposal being dropped around this time.

Reports indicate that Russian billionaire Suleyman Kerimov held at least a 1% stake in SpaceX through a trust, even after being sanctioned by the U.S. in 2018. This investment began in 2017 via Heritage Trust, managed by Citigroup. As no one in Russia with money has “freedom” and is controlled by Putin - this becomes an anchor into Musk’s dealings.

This episode gained widespread attention, particularly for a moment when Musk appeared to smoke cannabis during the interview. Multiple episodes since #1470 on May 7, 2020, #1609 on February 11, 2021, #2054 on October 31, 2023, and #2223 on November 1, 2024.

June 2024: A civil trial in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York concluded. A federal jury returned a verdict in favor of the plaintiffs, the City of Almaty and BTA Bank. The jury found Felix Sater, along with his companies Bayrock Group, Inc., and Global Habitat Solutions, liable on claims of conversion, unjust enrichment, and money had and received.

Sater was accused of helping Kazakh financier Ilyas Khrapunov launder millions of dollars (part of a larger sum allegedly looted from BTA Bank by Khrapunov's father-in-law, Mukhtar Ablyazov) through U.S. real estate, including condos at the former Trump SoHo tower, and other investments.

The parties were asked to submit a joint status report by April 2, 2025, including availability for a potential new trial in May or June 2025.
